> Putin is the "godfather" (the boss) of the oligarchs in the East. They are rich because of him.
No, no, no! Oligarchs appeared in the 90s under Yeltsin. They plundered what was in the USSR. Putin tried to negotiate with them. Otherwise, the property of the oligarchs will have to be nationalized. You can calculate the pros and cons of such a solution yourself.
> They do not want to be Russian. They were born Ukrainian and wish to stay Ukrainian.
Yes, now it really is. These 8 years have changed a lot in their minds. It's even amazing from a psychological point of view. And no one will forcibly alter them. This is a huge feature of Russia. Do you remember what kind of war there was in Chechnya? And now those Chechens are fighting for us! The peculiarity of Russia is the ability to live in peace with many nationalities. The problem of Ukraine is that it has become anti-Russia. Their whole policy is based on Russophobia. And as a "red line" joining NATO (they even wrote it in their constitution).

Gemorroj,
Your fix is good. Nicely done.
I have ordered the book you recommended. I am curious. It was set in 1918-1919. Much has changed in the last 100 years. But to quote a famous phrase by author William Faulkner: "The past is never dead. It's not even past."
I will watch the YouTube channels you suggested too. I am a skeptic by nature. I do not believe the media in the West either. Nor do I believe Russian media. (I have been reading pravda.ru). The most believable media comes from people live-streaming video from Ukraine. The mothers crying over their dead children. Pregnant women being hauled on stretchers from the hospital. I have a young musician friend from Ukraine. I believe her and her family and what they are seeing. I believe the videos her friends share. They do not want to be Russian. They were born Ukrainian and wish to stay Ukrainian.
Oligarchs - In the West they call them businessmen, entrepreneurs, and billionaires. But they should call them oligarchs here too. Everyone is a pawn compared to the power they wield.
Putin is the "godfather" (the boss) of the oligarchs in the East. They are rich because of him. And he is richer than all of them - it is just better hidden. Have you ever known a king to be poorer than his barons and dukes? I think not. They are all stealing from the people.
It is the same for the Americans. Their government is $30 trillion dollars in debt. The politicians are worth tens of millions of dollars even though they make $100k / year. They get paid by the businessmen to have the government spend money through their companies and they become worth billions.
This war is not for the people. Someone is getting rich somewhere. Look at Joe Bidens son, Hunter. He made $800k on the board of Burisma Gas in Ukraine. For what? Influence. Corruption is everywhere.
